Brunswick County Master Gardener VolunteersSM

Fall Online Plant Sale

August 31st – September 9th

For more information contact: Brunswick County Extension Master GardenerSM Volunteer Association email at BCMGVAT@gmail.com

Our Master Gardeners notice which plants grow well here in their Brunswick County Demonstration Garden in Bolivia. They also hear from visitors to our gardens what plants peak residents’ interests. These “Demonstration Garden ALL STARS” will be available for you to order online. We’ll offer some pollinator plants which will continue to attract birds, bees, and butterflies along with some white, pink, and rose Muhly grasses that bloom in the fall. The Master Gardeners, Johnson’s Nursery, and other local growers supply the plants we sell.

To order and pay for your plants, visit our website www.bcmgva.org from Thursday August 31st at 9:00 am through Saturday September 9, 2023, until 11:59 pm. Payment for Online Orders is through PayPal, Visa, Master Card, American Express, or Discover.

Pick up your plants in person on Friday September 15, from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Brunswick County Extension Office, 25 Referendum Drive, greenhouse area behind Building N, Government Complex, Bolivia, NC 28422. In the event of rain cancelling the September 15th pickup, the backup pickup date will be Monday, September 18th from 9:00 am until 1:00 PM.

During plant pickup, three local plant businesses will also be offering some unique plants for purchase on site; Ed’s Plants (perennials, tropicals, citrus trees, and shrubs), Going Native Gardens LLC (native perennials and other plants), and Richard Jones, a local carnivorous plant expert, will bring a selection of Venus Flytraps for sale.  He will also answer questions about carnivorous plants.

Soil Testing Info

The best first step toward having a beautiful garden and landscape is having your soil tested every couple of years. Homeowner/Residential Soil Kits are available for pick up on a table in front of the Extension Office doorways. Each soil test kit gives you three boxes for testing different areas of your yard and then you deliver them back, so we can send them to the labs at NC State University. Your info is returned directly to you by email. Instead of picking up and delivering your soil tests back to the Extension office, you may pick up AND drop off soil kits and testing boxes at the following locations throughout Brunswick County: Ace Hardware in Southport, Scott’s Farm/Jack’s Farm Center as well as Green Resource in Shallotte, Heritage Fresh Market (off Route 17) in Supply, Ace Hardware in Calabash, and Ace Hardware and Shelton Herb Farm in Leland.

We hope to see you at our plant sales this year. Always remember, the Extension Master Gardener volunteers greatly appreciate your support as we raise funds to support the Botanical Demonstration Gardens located beside the Extension offices, landscaping for Habitat for Humanity houses, and a wide variety of educational programming to help Brunswick County residents succeed in gardening in our coastal environment.

Happy gardening!
