Fall Plant Sale Sept 20&21

Work is underway on our Extension Master GardenerSM Fall Plant Sale scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20 and 21, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. This year, we extended the sale to two mornings to allow customers more flexibility to attend. This in-person sale will be held behind the fenced area across the street from the Botanical Demonstration Garden off Referendum Drive in Bolivia, NC.

We plan to bring you an exciting selection of late summer- and fall-blooming perennials as well as trees and shrubs that are well suited to our coastal environment. Japanese Maples (offered at really good prices), Butterflies and Ann magnolias (lovely colors of tulip magnolias), native azaleas (some which re-bloom like Encore azaleas but are hardy natives), and camellias (even a dwarf variety) are just a few we are working on offering. And many are not easily located in local stores and at local nurseries.

As always, we thank you for supporting our Master Gardener plant sales. Funds raised go toward a variety of educational programming, work in our Botanical Demonstration Garden, landscaping of Habitat for Humanity houses, and many more activities that help area gardeners learn how to be successful with your landscape in our hot temperatures and soil conditions that vary widely depending on where you live in Brunswick County.

Soil Testing Info

The best first step toward having a beautiful garden and landscape is having your soil tested every couple of years. Homeowner/Residential Soil Kits are available for pick up on a table in front of the Extension Office doorways. Each soil test kit gives you three boxes for testing different areas of your yard and then you deliver them back, so we can send them to the labs at NC State University. Your info is returned directly to you by email. Instead of picking up and delivering your soil tests back to the Extension office, you may pick up AND drop off soil kits and testing boxes at the following locations throughout Brunswick County: Ace Hardware in Southport, Scott’s Farm/Jack’s Farm Center as well as Green Resource in Shallotte, Heritage Fresh Market (off Route 17) in Supply, Ace Hardware in Calabash, and Ace Hardware and Shelton Herb Farm in Leland.

We hope to see you at our plant sales this year. Always remember, the Extension Master Gardener volunteers greatly appreciate your support as we raise funds to support the Botanical Demonstration Gardens located beside the Extension offices, landscaping for Habitat for Humanity houses, and a wide variety of educational programming to help Brunswick County residents succeed in gardening in our coastal environment.
